Amazon Prime Video Said to Include Limited Ads From January

Amazon will soon begin integrating advertisements into its Prime Video streaming services. According to a source citing the company’s notification to Amazon Prime members in the United States, the standard Amazon Prime plan will display advertisements when streaming movies and TV episodes.

This is not, however, a sudden change. The company announced the change in September of this year, stating that it would take effect in early 2024. The action now has a start date in certain places.

According to The Verge, Amazon stated in an email to customers in the United States that from January 29, advertisements will be included in movies and TV series streamed on its Prime Video platform.

According to the company’s email, the decision will allow them to continue investing in quality content while increasing the amount spent over time. In the email, Amazon also stated that they planned to have substantially fewer commercials than broadcast television and other streaming TV providers.

They explained that the existing price of Prime membership remains intact for all Amazon Prime users in the United States, and that no additional action was required as a result of this change.

However, if a user wishes to continue enjoying ad-free Prime Video, they can do so by upgrading their current Amazon Prime membership. They will have to pay an additional $2.99 per month. The typical Amazon Prime subscription currently costs $14.99.

From 29 January, users will have to pay $17.99 per month to continue watching movies and TV shows ad-free on Prime Video, or stick with their current plan with occasional advertisements.

Notably, Prime Video membership can be purchased separately from the normal Amazon Prime package. Users must currently pay $8.99 per month to access solely the Prime Video streaming service.

According to the aforementioned article, once the limited advertisements option is activated, that plan will cost $11.99. According to The Guardian, a similar action will begin on February 5 in the United Kingdom and Germany.
