How To Customize Netflix Subtitles To Get Most Out Of It

Subtitles play a crucial role while watching any TV shows and movies. This not only helps understand foreign-language movies but also helps to watch regular English movies.

Netflix offers subtitles for its entire catalog of movies and TV shows. However other than just the normal subtitle we see on Netflix, there are quite a lot of other options available to make the most out of them.

If you’re someone who streams a lot of content on Netflix, you definitely need to know about these features for subtitles.

    Font

You can change the font of the subtitles on Netflix. There’s a variety of font styles ranging from typewriter, cursive, print, console and more. You can even choose all caps for your subtitles.

To make the change go to account > profile & parental controls > subtitle appearance > font. Netflix even lets you change the font size and colour of your subtitles.

Follow the same steps and select color and background at the last step to make these changes.

    Language

By default, subtitles are usually set in English but you can always change it to your preferred language. Netflix offers subtitles in different languages for most of the films and series.

Tap on the speech bubble button that appears at the bottom of the screen to change the language. You can select your preferred language from the list of options and that will be set to default for your Netflix profile.

    Background

If you’re bored with the background color of how the subtitles appear, you can change that too. There are different background colors to choose from and you can also make it appear semi-transparent.

For this, go to account > profile & parental controls > subtitle appearance > background.

    Closed Captions

Netflix provides closed captions as well which add descriptions of background noises, tracks playing in the background, and names of characters who may be speaking off-camera.

This is one of Netflix’s accessibility features and you can enable this by going to audio & subtitles > audio descriptions.

    Shadow

Subtitles although white in color is still readable because Netflix adds a drop shadow to it. To further customize this you can choose among a few effects that help separate text from the background.

In addition to that, you can also change the color of the shadow drop or the outline. The same steps can be followed for this too and you just have to select shadow after subtitle appearance.
