WhatsApp Default Theme Feature Spotted on Latest Beta Version

WhatsApp is developing a feature allowing users to select a default style and change the color of chat bubbles on their smartphones. A feature tracker on a recent beta version of the iPhone app discovered the new customization option under development, which might include a selection of color presets. The Meta-owned messaging app has altered its color palette for iOS users, adding a green accent to features such as buttons and notification counters.

WABetaInfo, a feature tracker, discovered a new Default chat theme option in the newest WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.11.10.70, which users are now testing through Apple’s TestFlight program. This means the feature cannot be enabled right now, but it will be accessible for beta testers to try out later.

According to a screenshot shared by the feature tracker, WhatsApp is developing a new chat theme selector for the app, which will be available in the settings menu. Users can select from five options: default green, blue, grey, red, and purple.

The leaked image also includes a snippet of text informing the user that selecting one of the chaat themes will change the color and wallpaper — along with the corresponding themed WhatsApp doodle background — for chats on their phone.

Unlike Instagram, changing the chat theme only applies to the same phone. This means that the Default chat theme setting will not change the theme in a chat for both users, unlike Instagram, which allows users to theme conversations individually.

This new chat theme picker is likely to be made available to iOS beta testers shortly before being released to the stable channel. Because most features are shared between WhatsApp for iOS and Android, we may anticipate this capability appearing on the Android version of the app in the future.
