What Is an Olympics Task Force? Trump Signs Order Ahead of 2028 LA Games

President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order on Tuesday to establish a dedicated Olympics task force ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Los Angeles. The move comes as part of a broader effort to ensure the Games are executed securely, efficiently, and “memorably.”

“During his first term, President Trump was instrumental in securing America’s bid to host the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles,” said White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, adding that the president would work to make the event “the most exciting and memorable in history.”

“The President considers it a great honor to oversee this global sporting spectacle in his second term,” she added in a statement on Monday.

What Will the Olympics Task Force Do?

The task force will coordinate across federal departments and agencies to support the organization, security, and logistics of the Olympics and Paralympics — similar to a task force Trump previously created for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

The Olympics task force was first reported by Reuters and is expected to include appointees familiar with event security and international coordination.

Earlier this year, Trump appointed Andrew Giuliani, son of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, as the director of the World Cup task force.

    Trump: “I Did It”

Trump has frequently touted his role in bringing major global sporting events to the United States.

“I got the World Cup and I have the Olympics and I did it,” Trump declared at a campaign event in Iowa in July.

    Travel, Security, and Immigration Concerns

Both the Olympics and the World Cup are expected to bring millions of international visitors to the U.S., presenting challenges related to security, transportation, and immigration policy.

While some critics have raised concerns over Trump’s history of strict immigration policies and travel bans, the president has pledged to facilitate visa access and travel for athletes and spectators alike.

Trump Slams 2024 Paris Olympics Ceremony

Trump also recently criticized the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics, calling it “a disgrace” over what some believed was a depiction of Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper. Event organizers denied the performance had any religious reference.

Trump’s Ongoing Support for U.S. Sports

Since returning to office, Trump has regularly appeared at major sports events, including the Super Bowl, Daytona 500, UFC matches, the NCAA Men’s Wrestling Championships, and the FIFA Club World Cup Final.

The establishment of the Olympics task force signals his continued prioritization of the U.S.’s role on the global sports stage as the 2028 Games approach.
