A vehicle crashed into a crowd of patrons waiting outside a nightclub along Santa Monica Boulevard in East Hollywood early Saturday morning, injuring at least 30 people, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Details of the Incident
The crash involved a Nissan Versa, which struck several individuals standing in line, as well as a taco truck and a valet stand before coming to a stop. Capt. Adam Van Gerpen, public information officer for the Los Angeles City Fire Department, stated that victims were quickly transported to nearby hospitals and trauma centers, with at least three individuals reported to be in critical condition.
Eyewitness Accounts
“This is under police investigation,” Van Gerpen told The Associated Press. “This will be a large investigation with the LAPD.” He noted that clubgoers acted quickly, rushing to assist the injured moments before emergency services arrived.
“They were all standing in line going into a nightclub. There was a taco cart out there, so they were getting some food while waiting to go in. And there’s also a valet line there,” he explained.
Severity of Injuries
The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that as a result of the incident, three individuals are in critical condition, six in serious condition, and nineteen in fair condition following the Santa Monica Boulevard crash.
Additional Reports
Responders also found one individual with a gunshot wound at the scene, though authorities have yet to confirm the identity of the victim or determine if the wound was connected to the crash.
“The valet podium was taken out, the taco truck was taken out, and then a large number of people were impacted by the vehicle,” Van Gerpen added.
As the investigation continues, more details about the incident and the condition of the injured are expected to emerge.
