Two Delta Planes Collide at New York’s LaGuardia Airport

Two Delta regional jets collided at low speed while taxiing at New York City’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA) on Wednesday evening, resulting in the detachment of a wing from one of the aircraft. The incident occurred around 9:56 PM, and Air Traffic Control (ATC) audio confirms that the right wing of one plane struck the nose of the other.

Pilots reported damage to the windshield and at least one injury, though the extent of the injuries remains unclear.

Flight Details and Passenger Accounts

A CBS News producer onboard Delta Flight 5047 said the aircraft had just landed from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) and was taxiing to the gate when it was struck by another Delta regional jet.

“The collision happened at low speed, but caused significant visible damage, including the wing detachment,” the producer said.

Emergency Response and FAA Investigation

Ground crews responded immediately, and airport operations continued without interruption. Emergency vehicles were seen at the scene, and both aircraft remained stationary on the tarmac.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. Delta Air Lines has not yet released an official statement.

Two Delta Air Lines planes collided at New York City’s LaGuardia Airport Wednesday evening, the airport authorities confirmed. According to a CBS news producer at the airport, one plane was taxiing at the gate when it was struck by another Delta regional jet. At least one injury has been reported.

Impact and Safety Concerns

While the collision occurred at low speed, the detachment of the wing raises questions about taxiway safety and aircraft ground operations. Authorities are examining video and photos from the scene as part of the FAA investigation.

Passengers and crew involved in the incident have been accounted for, and no additional injuries have been reported at this time.
