Trump Imposes Tariffs on Non-US Movies and Furniture

US President Donald Trump announced that he is imposing tariffs on movies made outside the United States. Speaking on Truth Social, Trump said foreign countries were “stealing the movie-making business from America, like stealing candy from a baby.”

His post read: “Our movie making business has been stolen from the United States of America, by other Countries, just like stealing ‘candy from a baby.’ California, with its weak and incompetent Governor, has been particularly hard hit! Therefore, in order to solve this long time, never ending problem, I will be imposing a 100% Tariff on any and all movies that are made outside of the United States. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DJT”

Substantial Tariffs on Imported Furniture

In a separate Truth Social post, Donald Trump announced tariffs on furniture imports, citing the decline of North Carolina’s furniture industry.

Trump wrote:“In order to make North Carolina, which has completely lost its furniture business to China, and other Countries, GREAT again, I will be imposing substantial Tariffs on any Country that does not make its furniture in the United States. Details to follow!!! President DJT.”

Earlier Tariff Moves

Earlier this week, President Trump introduced tariffs on several product categories:

  • 100% tariffs on pharmaceutical products (not applicable to companies building plants in the U.S.)
  • 50% tariffs on kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, and related items
  • 30% tariffs on upholstered furniture
  • 25% tariffs on heavy trucks

Trump clarified that a company qualifies as “building” if its U.S. plant is “breaking ground” or “under construction.”

Protecting U.S. Industries

These tariffs are part of Trump’s broader strategy to boost American manufacturing, protect jobs, and reduce reliance on foreign imports. The President emphasized that these measures aim to restore industries that have been lost to foreign competitors.
