Omaha QuikTrip Shootout: Three Officers Hit, Suspect Dead

A violent shootout at a QuikTrip in Omaha, Nebraska left three police officers injured and the suspect dead on Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.

The incident unfolded around 2:25 p.m. near 32nd and L Streets, prompting the Omaha Police Department (OPD) to warn residents to avoid the area due to a “large police presence.”

OPD posted on social media: “OPD is investigating an officer involved incident near the QT at 32nd and L Street. Avoid the area… Additional information regarding media staging forthcoming.”

A later update confirmed: “Three officers are injured and taken to [a] local hospital. Non-life threatening injuries. Suspect in incident is deceased.”

Road Closures Impact Traffic Across Omaha

Police closed L Street between 30th and 33rd as the investigation continued. Drivers were urged to use alternate routes such as Q Street, F Street, Ed Babe Gomez Avenue, or major north–south corridors like Highway 75 and 36th Street.

Suspect Was Wanted in Earlier Shooting

According to Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer, officers were already searching for the suspect in connection with a separate shooting earlier Wednesday outside Phil’s Cash Saver near North 31st Avenue and Ames Avenue.

In that earlier incident, the suspect allegedly approached a victim loading groceries and opened fire, critically injuring them, local outlet KETV reported.

How the Omaha QuikTrip Shootout Happened

Police tracked the suspect’s vehicle to the QuikTrip. When officers approached, the suspect “came out of the bathroom and began to shoot,” Schmaderer said.

  • Two officers were struck by gunfire.
  • A third officer was hit by shrapnel.
  • All three were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots, and videos shared on social media captured parts of the confrontation.

Suspect Not Yet Identified

The suspect, described by Chief Schmaderer as a Hispanic male in his late 20s, “possibly 29,” has not yet been officially identified.

Police continue to investigate both the grocery store shooting and the QuikTrip shootout.
