Most people love to visit popular travel destinations but still, some prefer to explore places that are as much as spectacular as the popular travel destinations. With almost every travel destination explored by thousands of travelers, it’s hard to find secret and less known locations these days.
However no need to be worried, we are all aware of the fact that the world is a big place to explore. You can travel the world a couple of times over and still miss some of the beautiful places that exist.
So here are some of the lesser-known destinations that we think you’ve probably never heard of.
1. Tinago Falls, Philippines
Tinago Falls is a waterfall on the Agus River, located in between the town of Linamon and Iligan City, Lanao del Norte. It is present in the southern Philippine island of Mindanao. You have to rip down 500 steps in order to reach this waterfall located in the city of Iligan, a city known as the City of Majestic Waterfalls.
2. Marieta Islands, Mexico
The Marieta Islands are a group of small uninhabited islands a few miles off the coast of the state of Nayarit, Mexico. You have to get a permit in order to explore this incredible location which is located in federal waters approximately 7.9 kilometers southwest of the Punta de Mita. You can easily spot dolphins, manta rays, humpback whales and sea turtles over here.
3. Marble Caves, Chile
Located far from any road, these incredible caves are accessible only by boat. The naturally circular designs are carved into solid marble, the blue and green paint splashes are caused by a reflection of the water.
The best time to visit the caves is between September and February when the ice melts filling the lake and the color of the water is especially enchanting turquoise.
4. Cafayate, Argentina
Cafayate is a town in Salta province, in northwest Argentina, known for its reddish rock formations. This rural town in scenic Calchaquí Valley is home to the highest vineyards in the world and the town Museo de la Vid y el Vino explains the process of winemaking.
5. Tanah Lot, Bali
Tanah Lot is a rock formation off the Indonesian island of Tabanan Regency, Bali. This awesome site is home to the ancient Hindu pilgrimage temple Pura Tanah Lot. Due to the tide of the ocean, the rock housing the temple has been changed many times throughout the years which makes it a popular tourist and cultural icon for photography.

6. Huacachina, Peru
Huacachina is a desert oasis and tiny village built right in the middle of the southwestern desert of Peru. Tourists often visit here to enjoy dune buggy rides and sandboarding across the endless sandhills that surround the town. The lagoon’s shores are also dotted with bars and clubs.
7. Santa Maria dell’Isola, Italy
Wonderful little church with some truly breathtaking views of the city of Tropea and the surrounding beach town. The church is home to a 12th-century Byzantine portrait of the Virgin Mary that, according to locals, protects the area. The back of the church reveals a perfectly kept garden with lemons and other aromatic plants.
