Putin Prepared for Direct Russia-Ukraine Talks, Confirms Rubio

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his willingness to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This willingness marks a significant development in the ongoing conflict following three years of war.

Rubio noted, “But just the fact that Putin is saying, sure, I’ll meet with Zelenskyy—that’s a big deal. I mean, I’m not saying they’re going to leave that room best friends, but the fact that people are now talking to each other is crucial.”

Efforts Toward a Meeting

Rubio indicated that discussions are underway to arrange a meeting between Putin and Zelensky. “If that goes well, we hope to finalize a trilateral meeting with Trump too,” he stated, emphasizing the aim to work towards peace. “We’re not there yet, but that’s what we’re aiming towards,” he added.

Rubio stressed the importance of compromise, saying, “Both sides will have to give and receive. One side getting 100 percent is surrender.” This highlights the complexities involved in finding a resolution to the conflict.

Trump’s Announcement

Previously, Trump shared on Truth Social that he has begun organizing the meeting with Putin and Zelensky. He stated, “After that meeting takes place, we will have a Trilat, which would be the two Presidents, plus myself.” This indicates a proactive approach from the U.S. administration in facilitating dialogue.

Focus on Security Guarantees

Trump also mentioned discussions regarding security guarantees for Ukraine as part of a broader peace deal, noting that European countries would take the lead while coordinating with Washington. This aspect is crucial for establishing stability in the region.

Zelensky’s Meeting with Trump

In a significant diplomatic moment, Zelensky met with Trump in the Oval Office, which marked their first encounter since previous tensions in February. Zelensky described the meeting as their “best” yet, indicating a potential thaw in diplomatic relations.

The possibility of direct talks between Putin and Zelensky represents a pivotal moment in the ongoing conflict. As both leaders prepare for this important engagement, the international community watches closely for developments that may lead to a resolution.
