Woodville Fire: Blaze From Lightning Closes US 69

A massive Woodville fire erupted on Sunday afternoon after a lightning strike hit the Local Tire Disposal facility, igniting a huge pile of tires and surrounding debris. According to local reports, the blaze has already consumed around two acres and continues to spread rapidly.

Multiple Fire Departments Respond to Woodville Fire

The Texas Department of Emergency Management confirmed that several fire departments from across Southeast Texas have been deployed to the scene. Bulldozers are currently being used to create firebreaks in an effort to stop the flames from spreading further.

“The fire is primarily involving tires, which makes it extremely difficult to extinguish,” emergency officials stated.

US 69 Shut Down, Traffic Rerouted

Due to the intensity of the Woodville fire, both northbound and southbound lanes of US 69 near Seneca Road have been completely shut down. Authorities are diverting traffic to County Road 1040 as crews work to contain the blaze.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) issued an advisory for motorists:
“Drivers should avoid the area, expect delays, and exercise caution while rerouting.”

Cause of the Fire and Ongoing Efforts

Officials have confirmed that the fire was caused by a lightning strike during Sunday’s thunderstorms. The combination of rubber tires and strong winds has made firefighting efforts challenging. Additional resources may be brought in if the fire continues to spread.
