New York Flash Floods: Grounding of Flights at Three Airports

Severe weather on Monday evening resulted in significant air travel disruptions across the East Coast, with at least six major airports, including New York City’s JFK, forced to halt flights due to dangerous conditions.

Three Airports Grounded in New York City

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued ground stop orders at JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark International Airport in the New York metro area. Additional ground stops were implemented at Philadelphia International, Baltimore/Washington International, and Ronald Reagan Washington Airport near D.C.

By approximately 8:30 PM ET, some ground stops had been lifted, but delays across the region continued to mount. The FAA warned travelers to anticipate hold-ups ranging from 45 minutes to three hours.

Prepare for More Disruptive Weather

With forecasts predicting more heavy rain and high temperatures, New York City officials have issued warnings for both heat and flooding. Residents are urged to prepare for hazardous weather conditions on Tuesday. Forecasters indicated that “hot and humid conditions” could “approach or exceed” 100 degrees Fahrenheit, according to The Independent.

Stay updated and safe as these weather events continue to develop.
