Microsoft Outlook Outage: When Will Services Be Back to Normal?

Microsoft Outlook is currently facing significant outages, leaving millions of users around the globe disrupted. This outage began in the early hours when many people typically check their inboxes for new emails at home or in the office. Some users reported receiving messages stating that they do not have a valid license to use the service, as noted by Forbes.

    Login Issues and Service Disruptions

According to DownDetector, most reports are about users being unable to log in to Microsoft Outlook, accounting for 62% of all issues. Users have expressed their frustration, stating that the outage has made it impossible to access email, sync calendars, or send and receive messages. When attempting to access the service, many Outlook users have encountered the error message, “Something went wrong.”

    Microsoft Acknowledges the Disruption

Microsoft has addressed the situation on its Office 365 Status Page, confirming that they have identified the root cause of the outage and are actively working on a solution.

“We’ve identified an issue with the fix. We’re applying configuration changes, restarting affected components, and additional validations are underway to confirm that authentication components are properly configured,” the company stated regarding the current status of the service.

The disruption started at 10:20 PM UTC on Wednesday, July 9, and Microsoft expects to provide the next update at 2:00 PM UTC on Thursday, July 10. Users should look for this update for more information on when services will be restored.

    Impact on Users

This latest outage is impacting both enterprise and personal users, particularly those who rely on Outlook for remote work communications. As it stands, the cause of the current outage is still unclear. Last month, Microsoft indicated that a major reason for a previous Outlook email crash was due to “Outlook cannot open the Forms Library.”

This situation follows earlier issues users experienced with Windows Firewall and Windows 11 security update notifications.

    Conclusion

As the situation develops, Microsoft is working to resolve these outages. Users should remain patient and keep an eye out for updates regarding service restoration.
