Flash Floods in Phoenix Valley Leave Cars Stranded

Heavy monsoon storms on Friday caused flash flooding across the Phoenix Valley, leaving roads submerged, vehicles stranded, and dozens of crashes reported.

A small SUV became trapped in nearly 3 feet of water on the ramp connecting southbound Interstate 17 to westbound Interstate 10 near Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. Firefighters confirmed that the driver was safely rescued.

The ramp, which resembled a flowing wash, was later cleared as the floodwater receded.

Extreme Weather Creates Dangerous Driving Conditions

The storms led to hazardous conditions across the region, with large pools of water on major highways, including Loop 101 and US 60 in Tempe.

City streets were also affected, including:

  • 13th Street and Hatcher Street in north Phoenix
  • Dobson Road and Main Street in Mesa

Emergency crews remain on high alert as more storms are expected in the coming days.

Monsoon Season Impacts Continue

Arizona’s monsoon season often brings sudden heavy rains, flash flooding, and dangerous road conditions. Today, severe thunderstorms are dropping hail up to golf ball size, with millions of residents under flash flood warnings across the Phoenix metro area.
