Battle Creek Central High School Issues Statement Amid Active Shooter Report

On Monday afternoon, multiple schools in Battle Creek, Michigan were placed on lockdown following reports of an active shooter near Battle Creek Central High School. The Battle Creek School District confirmed the incident in an official statement.

Along with Battle Creek Central High School, BC STEM Academy and Ann J. Kellogg Elementary School were also locked down as a precaution.

School District Responds to Incident

In a Facebook statement, the district assured families that the situation is under control:

“The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority, and we are taking this matter very seriously. We will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement and will share updates as more information becomes available.”

Officials also confirmed that there is no ongoing danger to the school community.

What Happened Near Battle Creek Central High School?

According to police, the incident occurred around 2:50 p.m. near the intersection of Champion Street and United Way, close to the high school stadium.

The Battle Creek Police Department (BCPD) reported that there was an interaction between two groups, during which shots were fired.

A bystander who was not part of the confrontation was hit and sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries. Police have not confirmed whether the injured individual is a student.

Police Investigation Ongoing

Local reporter Josh Sanchez (Wood TV) noted that one person was injured but no life-threatening harm was reported.

Authorities shut down parts of Champion Street and Brook Street as officers searched for evidence.

Meanwhile, Battle Creek Public Schools confirmed that the lockdown extended to athletic events and all nearby school facilities.
