Passenger Train Derails in Buenos Aires, Many Injured

A passenger train derailed Tuesday morning in the Liniers area of Buenos Aires, Argentina, leaving multiple people injured and prompting a massive emergency response, according to early reports from local authorities and eyewitnesses.

Emergency personnel, firefighters, and paramedics rushed to the site near Timoteo Gordillo Avenue, where the Sarmiento line operates toward the city’s central station.

Passengers Evacuated, Rescue Teams on Site

Footage shared by local media outlets showed dozens of passengers evacuating the derailed train through emergency exits, with some receiving immediate treatment on the platform.

Rescue teams are combing through the carriages, searching for trapped individuals. Several victims are reported to be in serious condition, and there are unconfirmed reports of fatalities, though officials have yet to release an official count.

“A Loud Crash” Heard Before Train Left the Tracks

Local police have cordoned off the area around Liniers Station, while investigators begin work to determine the cause of the derailment.

Early eyewitness accounts suggest the train may have been moving slowly before “a loud crash” sent several carriages off the tracks. Officials said a full investigation will begin once rescue operations are completed.

Emergency Response and Transport Disruptions

The Sarmiento Line services have been suspended following the incident. Emergency teams remain on-site as daylight fades, using search dogs and specialized equipment to locate any remaining passengers inside the wreckage.

Authorities have urged residents to avoid the area to allow ambulances and rescue vehicles clear access. The Ministry of Transport of Argentina and Trenes Argentinos are expected to release an official statement once the number of casualties and extent of damages are confirmed.

Buenos Aires Train Derailment Under Investigation

The derailment in Buenos Aires marks one of the most serious rail incidents in Argentina this year. Investigators are expected to analyze the train’s speed, track conditions, and maintenance records as part of the probe.
