Anti-Aging Skincare Routine: 7 Tips You Should Try

It’s impossible to turn back the hands of time, but you can definitely defy your skin’s age with healthier habits, lots and lots of patience with yourself, and a bucketload of consistency.

While there’s never a wrong time to start an anti-aging skincare routine, a rule you will keep stumbling upon in skincare is that it’s easier to prevent than to repair. So if you’re reading this now, brush up on your skincare basics and incorporate the tips we’ve listed below!

Start With A Cleanser

Your skin begins to lose its hydration and sheen as you get older. And what comes after dryness and skin thinning? Wrinkles, of course!

So while washing your face every day is essential regardless of age or skin type, if you want an anti-aging face wash, choose one that is mild and creamy in texture. Not only should your skin be perfectly clean after using it, but it also shouldn’t be stripped of its natural oils and become too dry.

Another thing to include in your anti-aging skincare routine is a personalized face cleanser, which will replace the natural oils that deteriorate as you age.

Use An Exfoliant

Brands will keep emphasizing that their scrubs are mild and ideal for everyday use, but please keep in mind that exfoliating shouldn’t be done daily. The ideal exfoliation frequency is once or twice a week. Using it frequently, especially when aging, will only aggravate your skin and make it more susceptible to dirt and impurities.

When choosing your exfoliator, opt for products that are creamy, gentle on your skin, and have ingredients that can effectively heal your aging skin. Find the ones with glycolic acid, as this will eliminate the dullness that comes as you grow older. Another component to look out for is AHAs (alpha-hydroxy acids), which are great for fading uneven pigmentation.

Pat On Your Serum

Cleansing, toning, and moisturizing are the bare necessities of a good skincare routine. But why not take it to the next level with a serum?

Choose a light, non-greasy serum that will help your aging skin regain its radiance and vigor. Serums formulated with hyaluronic acid work particularly well because they replenish moisture that has been lost and restores the skin’s radiance. You can also look into serums containing vitamin C as they can compensate for the loss in this vitamin’s production by the skin as it ages.

Moisturize!

As we age, we produce less sebum. While this lowers your risk of developing acne, it, unfortunately, makes it easier for your skin to become dry. Inadequate skin hydration is one of the leading causes of fine wrinkles, but the good news is that it’s nothing a good moisturizer can fix!

Choose moisturizers that are nourishing and mainly designed to fight aging. Look for natural oils, water-binding humectants such as glycerine and hyaluronic acid, and other ingredients that promote skin rejuvenation. These components will help reduce wrinkles, even your skin tone, and smoothen your skin’s texture over time.

Apply Some Face Oil

It might sound counterintuitive, but there are tons of oil skin benefits when you add it to your routine. One of the most common signs of aging is a dramatic decrease in the production of the skin’s natural oils.

You can increase your level of moisture in the morning by using face oils. It may be used after your moisturizer for an additional nutrient boost, or you can use it for an hour before using your cleanser and then continue with the remainder of your regimen.

Don’t Forget To Put On Sunscreen!

Using sun protection is one proven technique to keep your skin looking young. It may sound harsh for that big ol’ sun, but you can pretty much blame it for a lot of your skin’s visible signs of aging. UV radiation from the sun can speed up aging by causing the appearance of uneven pigmented spots. It also breaks down collagen and alters your elastin, resulting in thinner skin and wrinkles.

So remember to wear broad-spectrum sunscreen every day, not just while at the beach. Religiously using sun protection will give your skin a break from being repeatedly battered by UV radiation, giving its own powerful regenerative processes a chance to work.

For prolonged sun exposure, make sure to reapply the product you’re using every two hours for the best protection.

Bonus Tip: Look After The Rest of Your Body

What you do to your body beyond your skincare routine will still reflect on your skin. You may have the best regimen for your skin in the morning and at night, but if you stick to an unhealthy lifestyle, it will all be for nothing.

A healthy body will result in even healthier skin. So make sure to:

  • Drink more water
  • Avoid smoking or stop the habit altogether
  • Try not to stress too much as it will show on your face
  • Rest your eyes or use eye drops when working long hours to prevent a build-up of pressure on the eyes
  • Care for your lips with a good lip balm
  • Fuel your body properly with a healthier diet
  • Sleep for at least seven hours every night to promote skin renewal

If you’re just building up your anti-aging skincare routine now, don’t think it’s too late! You’ll see the difference with excellent products that work well for your skin type, consistency, and the patience to keep going.
