YouTube Tests AI-Powered Comment Topics Summariser Feature

YouTube is working on an AI-powered comment topic summariser feature for Shorts. For the time being, the experimental feature will only be available on the video streaming giant’s iOS and Android apps, and it will be limited to Shorts with extensive comment sections from chosen producers.

The function divides the comment area into popular topics depending on user comments. AI topics were initially introduced last year and then made available globally for long-form videos. Notably, YouTube is testing an AI-powered custom green screen image generation tool called Dream Screen for Shorts.

YouTube provided further information about the feature on its dedicated support page for test features and experiments. The platform stated that it is testing the comment topic summariser feature for Shorts. The minute-long vertical videos with infinite scrolling have become a popular feature on the streaming platform.

YouTube has just included the comment topics feature to increase user engagement in conversations. The AI-powered topic summarise feature works in a straightforward manner. Then, it categorises the most-talked-about keywords into different sections and generates a title for each topic.

These topics may be found in long-format videos by entering the comment section on the mobile app. When you click the ‘Topics’ tab at the top of the section, it displays a list of different topics with labels. Each topic shows all relevant comments, making it easy for users to locate and contribute to interesting conversations.

YouTube announced that during the test, AI topics would be featured on Shorts by selected creators from the experiment groups. The company will choose Shorts with large comment sections and show topics. Front-end visibility will also be available to a select number of viewers viewing the videos on the mobile app.

In case creators want to remove any topic, they must delete the individual comments that appear under that topic. Furthermore, YouTube stated that the AI only uses published comments to thematically align them, and comments that are held for review, include blocked words, or come from blocked users will not be considered.
