WhatsApp Verified Channel Badge Feature Reportedly in Development

According to code spotted on the newest beta version of the app by a feature tracker, WhatsApp is working on allowing businesses to display a verification badge on their channels. The company is changing the way verification marks are displayed on the messaging platform. It is predicted that the existing green badges on WhatsApp will be replaced with blue verified tick marks, as seen on Instagram and Facebook.

WABetaInfo spotted a new “verified channel” feature in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.1.18 update, which is currently being sent to testers who have signed up to get beta versions of the app on Android.

Unlike other features presently being tested on the platform, this feature is still in development. It is scheduled to be rolled out to beta testers before being rolled out to all users on the stable channel.

The supposed interface for the new verified channel functionality is depicted in a screenshot released by the feature tracker. The feature appears to be intended at WhatsApp Business users, allowing them to display their verified badge on a new channel built for their company. The company revealed last year that firms would be able to subscribe to the parent company’s Meta Verified feature and receive a verified tick mark on their profile.

Adding the verified badge to a channel, according to WABetaInfo’s leaked screenshot, will immediately replace its existing name and profile picture and begin using your verified business details — a preview is also displayed, showing how your channel image, name, and verified badge will look. According to the screenshot, if you want to alter the photo of your channel, you must do so on the business profile.

According to WABetaInfo, firms must have a Meta Verified membership in order to display a verified tick mark. According to the feature tracker, individual users and non-business accounts will be unable to add a verified tick mark to channels.

While the feature tracker’s track record for uncovering and leaking new WhatsApp features is virtually unmatched, it is advisable to take these claims with a pinch of salt, given that the company has yet to disclose any plans for channel verification marks.
