Lake Elsinore Fire: Crump Blaze Expands to 55 Acres

Firefighters are working to contain the Lake Elsinore Fire, also known as the Crump Fire, which has burned 55 acres in an unincorporated area of Riverside County, officials confirmed Saturday.

The blaze was first reported around 12:30 p.m. near Crumpton Road and Highway 74. Cal Fire reported visible smoke columns and flames spreading at a moderate pace through medium brush.

As of 2:09 p.m., the fire had scorched 55.2 acres with no containment reported, according to Cal Fire Riverside Unit. The wildfire continues to threaten nearby residential areas.

Mandatory Evacuation Zones

Authorities have declared multiple mandatory evacuation zones due to the immediate threat to life. The following areas are under order:

  • North of Highway 74, south of Hammack Avenue, east of Vista Avenue, and west of Highway 74
  • North of Highway 74 and El Toro Cut Off Road, south of La Barranca and Santa Rosa Roads, east of El Toro Road, and west of Hammack Avenue
  • Zones LSN-1407 and RVC-1408: north of Highway 74, south of Mountain Avenue, west of Peach Street, and east of Crumpton Road

Officials stressed that residents should leave immediately, adding that the area is lawfully closed to public access.

Firefighting Efforts Intensify

The Riverside County Fire Department reported at least 15 fire engines, two air tankers, a helicopter, two water tenders, and two bulldozers are currently fighting the flames.

Aircraft have been conducting water and retardant drops, while ground crews are working to establish defensive lines to protect homes and infrastructure.

Cause Under Investigation

The cause of the Lake Elsinore Fire remains under investigation. Cal Fire noted that additional resources may be deployed if the fire continues to expand beyond its current footprint.
