Instagram Testing New Feature That Allows Friends To Add Photos To Your Posts

Instagram has seen many changes in recent times as the popular photo-sharing app adds new features. A couple of days back we reported that the Meta-owned social media network was developing a separate feed that only shows content from verified users.

Now, a recent report suggests the app is testing a collaborative carousel post feature that allows users to invite friends to contribute to their feed posts. This new feature allows your friends to upload additional photographs or videos to your post after it goes live.

Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri said the platform was testing the new function but did not give a release date. According to him, the feature will allow users to invite their friends to add to their carousel posts on Instagram.

“Before posting a carousel, you can turn on the ability for your followers to submit photos and/or videos, which you can approve to add to the post,” Mosseri wrote in a post on Threads.

An ‘Add to post’ button can be seen on the lower left corner of a carousel post in an image of the test feature accompanying his post. Friends of the user can use the button to add their contributions to the post. Users can also swipe to the last slide of the carousel, which appears as a larger ‘Add to post’ prompt for adding pictures or videos to the existing post.

Remember that you may only contribute media to a friend’s carousel post if they have the option enabled. All pictures and videos submitted would also need to be approved by the original poster. Mosseri said last week that Instagram was testing a special feed that would only show posts from verified users.

Currently, aside from the default Instagram feed, populated with ads, reels, and other posts, users can switch to a Following feed to only see posts from people they follow. There’s also a Favourites feed, which displays posts from users who have selected them as favorites on the app.

It was reported earlier that Meta planned to charge users in the European Union up to EUR 13 each month for access to an ad-free version of Facebook or Instagram on mobile. Instagram’s ad-supported version is now free for all users.
