Russia Confirms Putin-Trump Meeting Amid Efforts to End Ukraine War

A possible meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump could take place as early as next week, according to Russia’s deputy UN Ambassador Dmitry Polyanskiy, who confirmed the development.

Putin-Trump Meeting Likely Next Week

Speaking to reporters, Polyanskiy said that while exact details are being kept confidential, a timeline and potential locations are already being discussed.

“As far as I heard, there are a number of locations, but they agreed to something that they don’t want to disclose. The timeline is, I think, next week, but that’s again judging from what presidents said themselves,” Polyanskiy stated.

The announcement marks a significant step amid ongoing international efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war, now entering its fourth year.

No Confirmed Meeting With Zelensky, Says Russia

While confirming talks between Putin and Trump, Polyanskiy clarified that he had no knowledge of any scheduled meeting between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“I haven’t heard about any meeting planned with President Zelensky, but I am not in the loop,” he added.

Last Putin Meeting With a U.S. President

The last official summit between a Russian and U.S. president occurred in June 2021, when President Joe Biden met with Vladimir Putin in Geneva. No formal U.S.-Russia leader-level meeting has occurred since then.

Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, citing national security threats. However, Kyiv and Western allies have dismissed this as a pretext for an imperial-style land grab.

Trump’s Unfulfilled Promise on Ukraine War

Donald Trump had previously vowed to end the Russia-Ukraine war within 24 hours of becoming president. Nearly seven months into his second term, that promise remains unfulfilled.

The White House confirmed that Russia had reached out to schedule a meeting with Trump and that the summit could take place as soon as next week, signaling a potential diplomatic push to resolve the long-running conflict.
