How to Remove Lipstick Effectively? Proven Tips

Share

Makeup is incomplete without lipstick. However, every lipstick lover knows the pain of removing lipstick, especially long-wearing lipstick. There are so many different types of lipsticks that make it confusing how to remove lipstick effectively.

Of course, the idea of getting the perfect lippy formula that can outlast a marathon of hours at work and social outings is appealing. After all, having to reapply lipstick every hour or after you eat can get annoying really fast.

Recently bright matte lipsticks have been trending not because they look amazing, but because they can last for hours if applied correctly. The only problem is, how to remove lipstick?

Tips To Remove Lipstick

1. Using Coconut Oil

Most are not aware of the fact that coconut oil is used for most beauty purposes and too can be used to remove lipstick. It is one of the natural ingredients that help in getting the job done effectively.

If you’re in a pinch and find yourself without any makeup remover, go through your kitchen and improvise with olive oil. Sprinkle some olive oil(or baby oil) over cotton round and dab it over your lips. This will remove the lipstick effectively.

Additionally, like petroleum jelly, coconut oil creates a hydrating layer over your lipstick that will help loosen it and make it easier to wipe off.

2. Using Petroleum Jelly

The use of petroleum jelly can do more than just moisturize. You can use it to peel back layers of lipstick. Apply a dime-size amount of petroleum jelly to your lips and leave it on for a few minutes, five at most. Once the time is up, grab a damp towel and wipe your lips clean to reveal a soft and fresh pout.

This is one of my personal favorite items to use when removing makeup. Just swab a little on a cotton ball or Q-tip and apply it to your lip. It will remove your lipstick like you normally do. Petroleum jelly works great to remove all the lipsticks effectively and also smoothens your skin.

3. Using Eye Makeup Remover

Do you know eye makeup remover can also remove your lipstick effectively? Although this will dry your lips out more than coconut oil or petroleum jelly, the result will be quite fascinating.

Eye makeup remover will be especially effective if you prep your lips first by applying lip balm and then exfoliating. Put the eye makeup remover on a cotton pad or paper towel and wipe over the lips, repeating if needed.

Take extra care to avoid getting eye makeup remover in your mouth because it’s only designed for external use. Wash your lips with a gentle cleanser after using the makeup remover. Pat dry and apply lip balm to return some moisture to your lips.

4. Using Lip Balm

Lip balm is another commonly used thing that can effectively remove lipstick. Simply swipe on the lip balm over your lip stain and let it sit for a minute. The rough paper towels that are kept in the bathroom will come in handy for this, just crumple a piece up and rub it in circular motions against your lips. The lip stain won’t be able to stand a chance thanks to the friction.

5. Using Cold Cream

You can easily get rid of lipstick using cold cream. When everything else fails the cold cream can do wonders for clearing up any lipstick residue. Just use your fingers to apply the product to your lips and wipe them clean with tissue paper or cotton round.

6. Using A Tooth Brush

A toothbrush can be super effective if you want to get rid of your lipstick instantly. To use this method coat your lips completely using lip balm. Then, take a toothbrush(not the same one you use to brush your teeth with because it will get dirty and look gross) and gently “scrub” your lips in small circles until you see the dried patches of lipstick disappear.

7. Using Brown Sugar And Honey

This is one of those home remedies that can help in effectively removing lipstick. Even after you manage to get the first layer of lipstick on, there might be some residue left over. An exfoliator can come in handy to slough off any dead skin cells and uncover the smooth lips of your dreams.

For an improvised exfoliator, mix equal parts of brown sugar and honey in a small dish and rub the mixture over your lips for 30 seconds. Wipe off the excess with a damp washcloth and apply a hydrating lip balm right after to retain moisture.

8. Using Face or Body Lotion

When you have none of the above products with you then you can go for this option. Lotions can serve as makeup removers in a pinch. While lotions might be better suited to removing eye makeup and foundation/face powders, they will be helpful if you have none of the other options handy.

4.5Our Score
  • Daily Moisturizing Lotion
  • Long Lasting Hydration
  • Gentle On Skin

Apply the lotion to your lips and then use a makeup remover pad or paper towel to remove it. Be careful to avoid getting the lotion in your mouth. Only apply it to the outside of your mouth.

After removing the lipstick, carefully wipe off any excess lotion, wash your lips with a gentle cleanser, and then thoroughly pat your lips dry.
