Painesville Fire Forces Route 20 Closure in Lake County

A large Painesville Fire erupted on Sept. 12 at a commercial building along the 1500 block of North Ridge Road in Painesville Township, Ohio. The blaze forced officials to close Route 20 between Mantle Road and Fairport Nursery Road (State Route 535).

Eyewitnesses reported smoke visible from miles away, including as far south as Riverside Drive near the Lake County History Center. Photos shared online showed a dense plume rising over the township skyline by early afternoon.

Fire Crews Recall Off-Duty Personnel and Seek Mutual Aid

The Painesville Township Professional Firefighters L3411 union reported that all four township stations were fully committed to the scene, and off-duty firefighters were recalled to assist. Mutual aid from neighboring departments was also requested to contain the blaze.

The union urged residents to stay clear of the area, emphasizing safety:

“We ask the community to avoid North Ridge Road to allow emergency crews to work safely and effectively.”
