iPhone 16 Series Reportedly Easier to Repair Than Previous iPhones

According to a report, the iPhone 16 series may be more easily repairable than previous generations of Apple smartphones. The Cupertino-based tech giant unveiled the series, which includes the base model, the iPhone 16 Plus, the iPhone 16 Pro, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max, at the “It’s Glowtime” event this month.

While the company mentioned the new hardware modifications, it did not highlight the behind-the-scenes changes made to make the devices more repairable. However, there are three ways in which Apple has made the iPhone 16 series the most repairable model in its history.

It was previously impossible to fix an iPhone at a third-party repair shop or at home for various reasons. The company maintained a stringent policy regarding part replacements requiring customers to order them directly from Apple. Furthermore, the battery was stuck to the enclosure using an adhesive which was very difficult to remove.

According to Engadget, the adhesive issue has been resolved since the tech giant updated its adhesive design to use a substance that comes off when a low-voltage electrical current is put through it. Repair professionals can remove the battery from the enclosure using a 9V battery (which is widely accessible in stores and used in a variety of appliances).

Another improvement is expected for the iPhone 16 series’ Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) scanner, which is used for FaceID. Previously, it was impossible to repair outside of Apple service centers due to security concerns about manipulating the system. However, the new TrueDepth camera may allegedly be changed from one unit to another without trouble.

Further, Apple released the Repair Assistant in iOS 18, which resolves part pairing concerns. As previously said, part pairing was tough due to Apple’s strict policy. However, the company now lets users configure and calibrate new and old parts directly on the device.

Collectively, these modifications may make it easier for experienced users to solve small issues and replace parts at home, while others can have them repaired at a third-party store.
