How To Fix ‘Page Fault In NonPaged Area’ Error In Windows 10

Share

The nonpaged area in Windows is the portion of memory that includes vital files that your computer requires to run properly. Those vital files are stored in the nonpaged area so that the RAM does not have to switch them between itself and the paged area.

When this section of RAM fails, the system generates a PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error and displays a BSOD (blue screen of death). This error’s stop code is 0x00000050.

What Causes PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA?

So, what exactly is a page fault error? When your computer is doing tasks, it constantly loads programs and files into and out of its Random Access Memory, or RAM. If your Windows PC runs out of RAM, or if a program or file is inactive for an extended period of time, Windows will begin transferring data from RAM to your hard drive or SSD. These ‘items’ are kept in the Page File.

A Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) is likely if something interferes with reading or writing to the page file (pagefile.sys) or directly with your RAM.

The “page fault in nonpaged area” error can be caused by any of the following situations:

  • A faulty driver or system service
  • Corrupt or damaged RAM
  • A corrupted hard drive or solid-state drive (SSD)

How To Fix The Page Fault In Nonpaged Area Error

Restart Your PC

Many Windows problems can be resolved by just restarting your computer. So, give it a try. This is due to the fact that when you restart your computer, temporary files are deleted, and any task that is consuming too much RAM is terminated, making your computer run faster.

Run Windows Disk Checker Scan

For this follow these steps,

  • Search for CMD and select “Run as Administrator
  • In the command line, enter “chkdsk C: /f /r” and press ENTER.
  • If you see the notice “Cannot run because volume is in use by another process“, type y and press ENTER so the scan can run when the system restarts.

This scan takes a long time, especially if your disk space is full or if it is run at startup. So, please be patient.

SFC Scan

The system file checker (SFC) scan in Windows looks for and fixes faulty system files. As a result, it can assist you in resolving the page fault in nonpaged area error.

To perform the SFC scan follow these steps,

  • Search for CMD
  • Select and “Run as Administrator
  • Type in sfc/scannow
  • Hit Enter to start the scan

Update Outdated Drivers

One of the most common reasons of the page fault in nonpaged area error is due to outdated or corrupt drivers. Looking for old drivers and updating them can help you solve the problem.

Also Read:

To update your computer’s outdated drivers, right-click on Start and select “Device Manager”. When you see the drivers, a warning icon will display next to any outdated drivers. Expand the device that has an outdated driver, right-click on it and select “Update driver”. Now, select “Search automatically for drivers” so Windows can check the internet for new drivers. If a new driver is found it will install it and restart your pc.

Check Your RAM

As this problem is generally caused by RAM and driver issues, the first thing I would recommend is that you check the computer’s RAM. Mostly clearing dust from the RAM or reconnecting it solves this problem. If you are unable to verify it yourself, then you can take your computer to a qualified engineer.

Conclusion

This article explained the page fault in nonpaged area error, its causes, and how to resolve it. We hope the solutions described in this post help you in resolving the problem and eliminating the BSOD. If none of the solutions work, your last option is to reset your computer.
