iOS 17.4 Released With Support for Third-Party App Stores in the EU, More

On Wednesday (March 6), Apple issued the iOS 17.4 upgrade, which is the most recent OS version to support iPhone models and iPadOS 17.4. The update includes long-awaited support for third-party app stores in the European Union, where Apple is required to comply with the new Digital Markets Act (DMA).

iOS 17.4 introduces new emoji, changes to the battery interface on iPhone 15 models, transcripts in Apple podcasts, and improvements to the Stolen Device Protection function, among other things. Additionally, iOS 17.4 allows EU users to select non-Apple Pay payment services. It also includes various security fixes and patches.

iOS 17.4 is now ready to download as the most recent software upgrade for supported iPhone models. The latest iOS release makes significant modifications to iPhone models in Europe. With iOS 17.4, users in EU countries can download an alternative app store and install apps not available on the Apple App Store.

Additionally, EU users will have improved default app controls and more methods to make in-app payments. Safari has also received some updates, and users may now select a new default browser choice. The DMA requires certain adjustments in the EU.

Apple is introducing new emojis to iPhone users with iOS 17.4. The emoji keyboard now includes new mushroom, phoenix, lime, broken chain, and shaking heads emojis. Users of the most recent iOS version can get automatic podcast transcriptions in English, Spanish, French, and German.

The improvements made in iOS 17.4 improve the Stolen Device Protection feature. It offers a new Siri option for announcing messages in any supported language. Music recognition may now add music you’ve identified to your Apple Music playlists, library, and Apple Music Classic.
