Epic Games Brings Fortnite Back With Its iOS App Store in Europe

Epic Games announced the debut of its app store on iOS in the European Union and Android globally on Friday. The app store, called Epic Games Store, debuted with titles like Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe, and Fall Guys.

The app store’s launch on iOS was made possible by the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) last year, which required Apple to open its platform to third-party app stores. Notably, the game publisher will use its own payment processor to enable in-app purchases.

In a press release, the company announced that the Epic Games Store will be available on iOS in Europe and Android worldwide. It is also releasing its games on the third-party app store AltStore PAL (PAL stands for phase alternate line). Users in eligible regions can start playing the games after downloading and installing them.

In response to the launch, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeny wrote on X (previously known as Twitter), “Fortnite has been freed on iOS in Europe, thanks to the Digital Markets Act. Apple continues to block Fortnite from a billion players in the rest of the world, and the battle rages on to restore free market competition.”

In addition, the company has offered extensive instructions for installing its app store for iOS and Android in separate videos. Those who install the games will be able to play Fortnite’s mobile edition, with the battle royale game’s Chapter 5, Season: Absolute Doom, releasing on Friday.

Furthermore, the publisher stated that it included the detailed installation process since iOS and Android had implemented “intentionally poor-quality install experiences laden by multiple steps, confusing device settings, and scare screens.” It stated that the company will continue to fight the platforms in court and collaborate with authorities throughout the world to eliminate anti-competitive policies.
