Apple released iOS 17.2.1 to eligible iPhone models on Tuesday, along with unspecified bug patches in preparation for the coming holiday season. The update comes just a week after Apple released iOS 17.2 with the Journal app (Review), which was initially revealed at WWDC 2023.
Apple hasn’t released an update for iPadOS, but macOS Sonoma has been upgraded to version 14.2.1, which includes a fix for a screen-sharing bug, according to the Cupertino company.
According to the company’s security releases website, you can now update to iOS 17.2.1 if you have an iPhone XS or newer model. The current security update, like iOS 17.1.1 and iOS 17.0.2, has no published CVE (common vulnerabilities and exposures) entries. Apple advises that all users update to iOS 17.2.1, despite the fact that the release notes do not specify which bugs have been fixed.
You can install the 240MB update on your iPhone by going to Settings > General > Software Update > Update Now. If you have allowed Apple to download iOS updates automatically, you may see an Install Now button that will restart your smartphone if its battery is fully charged.
Apple has also released macOS Sonoma 14.2.1 for newer Mac systems, which includes bug fixes. The latest update for macOS Sonoma, according to Apple, fixes a WindowServer (a mechanism used by apps to interface with the display on macOS) fault that led users sharing their screen to unintentionally share inaccurate material.
iOS 17.2 was released to consumers last week, and it included a new Journal app, support for taking Spatial Video on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, and new functions for the company’s latest Pro models’ Action button. According to Apple, the update also brought compatibility for the Qi2 wireless charging standard to the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 series.

The company has recently released iOS 17.3 beta 1 to beta testers, which includes new functionality. Users who have elected to get beta updates for iOS 17 can now test out features such as Apple’s new Stolen Device Protection feature, which requires the usage of Touch ID or Face ID before making account-related changes on a stolen iPhone. Further, collaborative playlists on Apple Music, which were announced months ago at WWDC 2023, are finally making their way to iOS 17.3.
