Learjet 55 Catches Fire at Simon Bolivar Airport, Venezuela

A Learjet 55 crashed at Simon Bolivar International Airport in Maiquetia, Vargas, Venezuela, on Wednesday. Videos circulating online show the moment of the crash, followed by large plumes of smoke, as well as footage of the aftermath.

According to Venezuela’s National Institute of Civil Aeronautics, four people were onboard the jet. Two passengers were rescued alive and received medical attention, with their condition reported as stable. The agency has not confirmed the status of the other two passengers.

Crash Details

The agency stated that the Learjet 55 was departing from the airport when it crashed to the ground. Search and rescue protocols were immediately activated, resulting in the safe rescue of two passengers.

Social media videos show heavy smoke rising from the airport tarmac, highlighting the severity of the crash.

Learjet 55 (#YV3440) crashed during takeoff at Caracas Maiquetia Airport in Venezuela earlier today after possible wheel explosion towards the end of the runway, major explosion and smoke could be seen for miles. Two passengers were rescued and are in stable condition an investigation is ongoing. No word on the pilot or pilots condition.

Flight History

Flight tracking site Flightradar24 revealed that the Learjet 55 had recently flown within Venezuela, as well as in Panama and Cuba, indicating it was actively operating in the region.
