Ukrainian Drone Strikes Russian Soldier on Horse in Viral War Video

A Ukrainian drone strike targeting a Russian soldier riding a horse has gone viral after footage surfaced online showing the moment an FPV drone locked on and detonated across open terrain.

The undated video, shared by Ukraine’s 92nd Infantry Brigade, captures what appears to be Russian forces attempting to cross fields on horseback amid the ongoing Russia–Ukraine war.

The clip shows a Ukrainian drone tracking a Russian soldier on horseback before diving and exploding near the rider. A second horse is seen reacting violently to the blast, rearing and fleeing the scene as dust and debris fill the frame.

Drone Footage Shared by Ukraine’s 92nd Infantry Brigade

The Ukrainian Army’s 5th Assault Battalion of the 92nd Infantry Brigade posted the video on Telegram, describing the strike as part of continued drone operations against Russian forces. The brigade claimed the use of horses reflects equipment losses suffered during what it described as repeated “meat assaults.”

In its caption, the unit stated that Russian troops are losing vehicles so rapidly they are being forced to move on horseback, adding that even this tactic fails once drones identify a target. The post claimed the enemy was neutralized immediately after being spotted.

The footage was cited by Militarnyi, while Times Now noted it could not independently verify the video.

FPV Strike Sequence Captured on Camera

The video reportedly opens with a lone Russian soldier riding a horse across exposed ground while a Ukrainian drone shadows him from above. As the rider accelerates, the FPV drone descends sharply and detonates.

Moments before the blast, another mounted soldier is visible nearby. The explosion appears to knock one horse to the ground while another escapes riderless. The footage ends without showing the aftermath beyond the immediate impact.

Searches related to “Russian soldier on horse drone strike” surged online following the clip’s circulation.

Drones Dominate the 2025 Battlefield

The footage highlights the growing dominance of drones across the front lines in 2025. Ukrainian forces increasingly rely on FPV drones for surveillance and strike missions, particularly along the roughly 600-mile conflict zone.

According to the brigade’s messaging, drone-led attacks now precede infantry movements, with heavier drones dropping munitions before ground units advance. This approach is presented as a way to preserve manpower while maintaining pressure on Russian forces.

Low-Tech Tactics Falter Under Aerial Surveillance

The brigade’s video argues that attempts to reduce detection—such as using horses or motorcycles—have proven ineffective under constant aerial surveillance. Russian cavalry-style movement, likened online to a World War II throwback, has drawn attention as drones continue to neutralize low-signature targets.

The footage reinforces Kyiv’s narrative that drone warfare remains a key equalizer as the conflict continues, with officials stressing that even unconventional tactics offer little protection in drone-saturated battlefields.
