Netanyahu Rejects Palestinian State, Backs Trump Plan

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has voiced support for US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan to end the war in Gaza, even as the Hamas terror group has not responded. The plan, which aims to restore peace and redevelop Gaza, has also received backing from foreign ministers of eight Arab and Muslim-majority countries.

    Netanyahu Praises Trump’s Gaza Plan

In a video statement from Washington, Netanyahu highlighted the benefits of Trump’s proposal. He said:

“Now the whole world, including the Arab and Muslim world, is pressuring Hamas to accept the terms that we created together with Trump, to bring back all the hostages — the living and the dead — while the IDF stays in the Strip,” according to Times of Israel.

Netanyahu further claimed that the plan allows the IDF to remain in Gaza and ruled out the possibility of a Palestinian state. However, this interpretation of the plan differs from the published White House document, which envisions a gradual IDF withdrawal to an international security force.

Key Points of Trump’s Gaza Plan

    1. Gaza as a Terror-Free Zone

The plan envisions a deradicalized Gaza, free of threats to its neighbors, with redevelopment projects to improve living conditions.

    2. Immediate Ceasefire and Hostage Release

If both parties agree, hostilities end immediately. Israeli forces will withdraw to agreed lines while all military operations are paused. All hostages, alive or deceased, will be returned within 72 hours.

    3. Prisoner Releases and Amnesty

Israel will release prisoners, including women and children detained after October 7, 2023. Hamas members willing to renounce violence may receive amnesty, while those choosing to leave Gaza will be offered safe passage.

    4. Humanitarian Aid and Reconstruction

Full aid will flow into Gaza under international supervision, rebuilding infrastructure, hospitals, and essential services. A temporary technocratic Palestinian committee will manage governance, overseen by the Board of Peace, chaired by Trump.

    5. Economic Development and Special Zones

The plan includes an economic redevelopment program with international investments, a special economic zone, and job creation opportunities to boost Gaza’s growth.

    6. Security Measures and IDF Withdrawal

Hamas will be excluded from governance. All terror infrastructure will be dismantled. The International Stabilization Force (ISF), along with trained Palestinian police, will secure Gaza. The IDF will withdraw gradually, leaving a secure perimeter until stability is achieved.

    7. Pathway to Palestinian Self-Determination

While immediate statehood is ruled out, the plan creates conditions for future Palestinian self-determination once governance reforms and redevelopment succeed.

    International Response

Foreign ministers from eight Arab and Muslim-majority countries have expressed support for Trump’s proposal. Hamas, however, has not issued a formal response, leaving key parts of the plan dependent on their acceptance.

    Conclusion

Netanyahu’s endorsement of Trump’s Gaza plan underscores Israel’s focus on security and gradual redevelopment. The plan aims to balance humanitarian aid, reconstruction, and demilitarization, while creating a framework for future peaceful co-existence.
