WhatsApp Working On A Feature To Block Messages From Unknowns

According to information uncovered by a feature tracker, WhatsApp may soon protect users from certain messages received from unknown senders. The messaging platform is developing a feature allowing users to block messages from unknown accounts, thereby improving device performance and protecting their accounts.

WhatsApp is also starting to roll out the option to “like” status updates on its messaging app, allowing users to rapidly react to photos, videos, and text stories shared by other users.

WABetaInfo spotted a new Block unknown account messages toggle on WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.17.24, which was just made available to beta testers on Android. Users cannot test the functionality because it is still under development and looks to have been activated through reverse engineering.

WABetaInfo also shared a screenshot of the new feature, which can be found in the Settings app’s Privacy > Advanced menu. According to the feature description, WhatsApp will filter messages from unknown accounts if they exceed a certain volume.

According to the leaked description, WhatsApp will block messages from unknown senders to protect a user’s account while ensuring that the app’s performance on the smartphone is not compromised. This shows that even if users turn on the Block unknown account communications setting in the future, some messages will still pass through.

WhatsApp beta testers may now use a heart emoji to react to status updates, which allow users to share text, pictures, and videos for 24 hours like Instagram stories. Facebook and Instagram both allow users to react to messages with a single tap, and the current beta version of WhatsApp now supports the same feature.
