Ryan Routh Found Guilty in Trump Golf Course Attack Attempt

Ryan Wesley Routh(Ryan Routh), the 59-year-old man convicted of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump, caused shock in court when he tried to stab himself in the neck with a pen immediately after being found guilty. According to NBC News, the dramatic scene unfolded on Monday in Florida’s Southern District Court, moments after the jury delivered a unanimous verdict on all five federal charges.

Witnesses reported chaos as marshals rushed to restrain Routh. He was quickly subdued and taken for medical evaluation. The incident highlighted the high tensions surrounding the case, which has gained nationwide attention amid rising concerns over political violence.

Ryan Routh Convicted on Five Federal Charges

Routh’s conviction came after a 12-day trial that featured testimony from Secret Service agents, FBI investigators, and civilian witnesses. Prosecutors argued that he carefully planned the September 2024 assassination attempt at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.

The charges included:

  • Attempted assassination of a former president under Secret Service protection
  • Attempted murder of a federal officer
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Use of a firearm during a violent crime
  • Transporting unregistered weapons

Evidence presented in court included an SKS semi-automatic rifle, burner phones, and a handwritten note offering $150,000 to anyone who would kill Trump.

Motive Behind the Assassination Attempt

Prosecutors linked Routh’s actions to radicalized political views. They highlighted his social media posts and a manifesto accusing Trump of “global fascism.” While investigators found no direct ties to extremist groups, his 2022 trip to Ukraine in an effort to recruit fighters was raised as part of his background.

Routh, once a Trump supporter who later became a critic, represented himself during the trial. His defense was described as chaotic and theatrical.

Sentencing Ahead

Routh now faces life in prison without parole. Sentencing is scheduled for November 18, 2025, before US District Judge Aileen Cannon.

Trump reacted to the verdict on Truth Social, stating:

“Justice served. No more leniency for radicals who threaten our country.”

Growing Concerns Over Political Violence

The case comes amid heightened fears of political violence in the United States. The attempted assassination at Trump’s golf course in 2024 follows the July 13, 2024 rally shooting, where Trump was injured. Analysts warn that these incidents mark a dangerous escalation in threats against high-profile political figures.
