Joshua Jahn, 29, was identified as the gunman who opened fire at a Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility on Wednesday morning. He died from self-inflicted wounds after shooting three detainees. According to DHS, at least two detainees were killed, while the third remains in critical condition.
Officials stated that Jahn fired “indiscriminately at the ICE building, including at a van in the sallyport where the victims were shot” from a nearby attorney office rooftop, referring to him as a sniper.

Joshua Jahn’s Family Denies Political Motivation
Joshua Jahn’s brother, Noah Jahn, told NBC News that Joshua was not politically active and had no strong feelings about ICE: “He didn’t have strong feelings about ICE as far as I knew. I didn’t think he was politically interested. He wasn’t interested in politics on either side as far as I knew.”
Noah described his brother as “unique” but said there was no indication he would carry out a politically motivated attack. The siblings grew up in Allen, Texas, and Joshua was trained in coding but was currently unemployed and planning to move into his parents’ Oklahoma home.
Noah also noted that while Joshua knew how to use his parents’ gun, he “was not a marksman” and would not have been capable of precise shooting from the rooftop.
Dallas ICE Shooting Investigation
The FBI and DHS are investigating the incident as an act of targeted violence. According to DHS: “Jahn fired indiscriminately at the ICE building, including at a van in the sallyport where the victims were shot.”
Texas Senator Ted Cruz described the shooting as “politically motivated violence” and urged politicians to reduce inflammatory rhetoric against ICE agents:
“To every politician who is using rhetoric demonizing ICE and demonizing CBP: stop.”
Bullet Casings and Alleged Political Links
FBI Director Kash Patel shared photos of bullet casings recovered from the scene, some engraved with “ANTI-ICE”, pointing to a potential ideological motive.
Amid public speculation, conservative commentator Laura Loomer claimed Jahn had links to Antifa. She found a now-deleted Facebook profile of Jahn with a profile picture containing an Antifa poster: “The profile photo is of an armed communist with the hammer and sickle. GLORIOUS EXPOSITION, COMRADE.”
Loomer added: “He also has a previous conviction for selling Marijuana. Proof this was Leftist political violence against ICE officers.”
Joshua Jahn’s Motive: What We Know
Despite the social media claims, Jahn’s family maintains that he was not politically inclined. NBC News confirmed he was a registered independent and last voted in 2024.
“I didn’t think he was politically interested,” Noah Jahn said. “He wasn’t interested in politics on either side as far as I knew. He didn’t have strong feelings about ICE as far as I knew.”
The FBI continues to investigate the shooting and collect evidence to determine Jahn’s motives. No ICE agents were harmed during the incident.
