Google released its latest flagship smartphone series, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Google introduced the latest Pixel smartphones at the ‘Made by Google 2023’ keynote. Google also revealed the Pixel Watch 2 at the same event.
Google has released the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel Watch 2 following a constant stream of leaks and teasers that left nothing to the imagination.
With a starting price of $999, the Pixel 8 Pro has better cameras and a brighter screen. The basic Pixel 8 features a slightly smaller 6.2-inch display than its predecessor. Both phones include Google’s new Tensor G3 processor, Android 14 out of the box, and a seven-year OS upgrade promise, and are available for preorder starting today.
The Pixel Watch 2 comes with a new design and is available for preorder starting at $349. There’s a new crown and an updated sensor array, as well as some features carried over from the Fitbit Sense 2.
Google’s foundational models can run natively on Pixel 8 Pro
On the Pixel 8 Pro, features like Magic Eraser will be processed offline using on-device generative AI. This AI will also enable features like smart compose and smart reply in the coming months. The Pixel 8 Pro will also include an on-device imaging model, which will aid in several functions such as zooming in closer than ever before.
Google Pixel 8 series features ‘Video Boost’
When videos are recorded on the new Pixels, the Tensor G3 chip kicks in, processing each frame of a 30 FPS video and applying HDR enhancements to them. Google compared Pixel footage to that of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, demonstrating how the exposure and colors are improved. With this function, the company promises the best low-light video recording experience on any smartphone.
