Rob Reiner, Wife Found Stabbed in LA Home: Report

Veteran Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner, acclaimed for classics like When Harry Met Sally…, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride, and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead on Sunday, December 14, at their Brentwood, Los Angeles residence. The discovery has prompted a homicide investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division.

Bodies Discovered With Apparent Stab Wounds

Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a medical aid call to the couple’s South Chadbourne Avenue home around 3:30 p.m., where officers later found the bodies of a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman. Sources have confirmed that both victims sustained fatal stab wounds inside the residence.

Son Taken Into Custody in Connection With Deaths

Law enforcement officials have taken the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, into custody as part of the investigation. He is being questioned amid suspicions related to the deaths; charges including murder are reportedly under consideration.

LAPD Statement on the Investigation

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that officers assigned to the West LA Division responded to a death investigation in the 200 block of South Chadbourne Avenue. Once inside, they located two decedents, and the Robbery-Homicide Division was assigned to the case to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Who Was Rob Reiner?

Born March 6, 1947, Rob Reiner had a prolific five-decade career as an actor, director, writer and producer. He first gained fame as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the sitcom All in the Family, earning two Emmy Awards before transitioning to film direction with This Is Spinal Tap in 1984.

Reiner went on to direct several critically and commercially successful films, including Stand By Me, Misery and A Few Good Men. He also co-founded Castle Rock Entertainment, producing numerous hit projects.

Reiner married Michele Singer, a photographer, in 1989. The couple had three children: Jake, Nick and Romy. Reiner was also the adoptive father of actress Tracy Reiner from his earlier marriage to Penny Marshall.

Family Reaction and Ongoing Inquiry

According to sources close to the family, the couple’s daughter reportedly discovered their bodies and has cooperated with authorities. Police continue to investigate, and additional interviews with family members are expected. So far, the Los Angeles Police Department has not released details on motive.
