Lakeside High School in Lake Elsinore, California, went into lockdown Friday afternoon after a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies and Cal Fire crews rushed to the school on Riverside Drive at about 3:40 p.m., treating the situation as a possible active shooter incident until they had more details.

After searching classrooms and common areas, deputies confirmed that no threat was found.

“At this point, there is no evidence of a shooting,” a Sheriff’s Department spokesperson said.

How the Incident Unfolded

  • 3:40 p.m. – Deputies received a call about an assault with a deadly weapon. A full search of the campus began.
  • 3:49 p.m. – Officials reported no evidence of a shooting or assault. No injuries were found, suggesting the call may have been a false alarm.
  • 3:54 p.m. – Deputies continued checking classrooms as firefighters and ambulances staged nearby. The school remained closed to outsiders.

School District Statement

The Lake Elsinore Unified School District issued a ParentSquare alert confirming the lockdown and asking parents not to rush to the school.

Deputies explained the lockdown was done out of caution after receiving calls about a potential threat. The School Resource Officers and Special Enforcement Team also helped with the search.

No suspects, weapons, or gunfire were reported.

Superintendent Reassures Families

Superintendent Doug Kimberly released a statement to calm families:

“Providing a safe school environment remains our priority. We continue to work with law enforcement and follow established safety protocols, including regular lockdown drills and surveillance upgrades.”

No Evidence of Danger

Deputies, firefighters, and medical crews worked together to secure the school while students and staff stayed in lockdown.

Authorities confirmed there were no injuries and no sign of a suspect. The investigation into the call remains active.
