Limited Edition Labubu Doll Approaches $10,000 at Auction

The Labubu dolls, created by artist Kasing Lung in 2015, have taken the social media world by storm, capturing the hearts of fans and Hollywood celebrities who prominently display them in their homes. Recently, a limited-edition collaboration between Labubu and the shoe brand Vans has emerged, generating significant buzz as reports suggest it could sell for five figures on the secondary market. According to Forbes, an auction for the doll on eBay is nearing the $10,000 mark.

The Labubu x Vans Old Skool Vinyl Plush Doll, produced by Chinese toy company Pop Mart, was actually designed in 2023. However, its limited availability has made it one of Labubu’s most sought-after versions.

    Auction Update

As of 2 PM EDT on Wednesday, a listing for this limited-edition toy on eBay has garnered 16 bids, reaching $8,924. This makes it the “most expensive” Labubu doll currently available for purchase on various secondary market platforms.

The limited edition doll features streetwear designs from Vans, including the Sk8-Mid sneakers and a sweatshirt, along with a blue and orange hat labeled ‘The Monsters,’ representing the series of characters to which this toy belongs. The ongoing auction will continue until 10:45 PM EDT on Monday, July 21.

Recent Record Sales of Labubu Dolls

Labubu dolls have fetched impressive sums in past auctions. Some notable sales include:

    • Three Wise Labubu: $28,300 at a Sotheby’s auction in May
    • Sacai x Seventeen x Labubu: $31,250 at a June auction
    • Life-sized Labubu doll: Over $150,000 at a Chinese auction house in June
    • Tall brown Labubu doll: $140,000 at a Chinese auction house last month

Lori Verderame, known as ‘Dr. Lori’ on the History and Discovery Channel, believes the Labubu trend is here to stay. “Their unique look and general appeal will surely make them a strong market collectible for years to come,” she told Forbes.

    Background on the Labubu Dolls

Kasing Lung, based in Hong Kong, designed the Labubu toys nearly a decade ago, debuting the characters in the picture book series The Monsters Trilogy in 2015. Inspired by Nordic mythology, Pop Mart obtained the rights for these designs in 2019, transforming them into popular collectible toys.

As the Labubu doll trend continues to grow, collectors and fans alike are eager to see what future releases will bring.
