Madre Fire and Other Wildfires Burning Across California: Complete List

California is currently battling over a dozen active wildfires across multiple counties, with the Madre Fire in San Luis Obispo being the largest blaze of the year. This wildfire has consumed nearly 70,800 acres, surpassing the combined 51,490 acres of the Palisades and Eaton fires that affected densely populated areas in Los Angeles County back in January 2025.

Beginning on Wednesday afternoon, the Madre Fire has rapidly spread to 70,800 acres and is only 10% contained, according to Governor Gavin Newsom’s office.

Another significant blaze is the Wolf Fire in Riverside County, which ignited on June 29 and has burnt 2,414 acres. Fire crews, comprising 969 personnel, reported 65% containment as of late Thursday.

Quick Fact: According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, there are at least 15 active incidents, each covering over 10 acres.
