WhatsApp has recently started rolling out a new feature that allows you to add music to your WhatsApp status. Like Meta’s other social platforms, Instagram and Facebook, you can now add up to 15 seconds of music to an image and up to 60 seconds when posting a video. WhatsApp Status updates, including those containing music, are protected by end-to-end encryption (so WhatsApp cannot see which songs are added to a Status) and are available for 24 hours after posting.
We tested the new feature that allows you to add music to your Status on the latest WhatsApp for iOS and Android. The WhatsApp Status composer now features a new music icon that, when tapped, opens a pop-up card. You can search for specific tracks or select from a list of popular music in your region.
After you’ve selected a music track, you can check your Status audience, make more adjustments, and tag other people or groups before publishing. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to add music to your WhatsApp Status.
