Apple has yet to reveal details about the security improvements included in the iOS 17.4.1 and iPadOS 17.4.1 releases.

According to Apple, iOS 17.4.1 is now available for eligible iPhone models, and it includes a few bug fixes and security improvements. The small update comes just after the iPhone maker released iOS 17.4, which added support for third-party app stores in the European Union (EU), transcripts for Apple Podcasts, and new emoji, on March 5. The company’s most recent iOS software update, iPadOS 17.4.1, includes some of these crucial updates.

The current iOS 17.4.1 update, like previous iOS 17 update, is available for download for iPhone XS and subsequent devices, while the iPadOS 17.4.1 upgrade is compatible with qualifying iPad, iPad Mini, iPad Pro, and iPad Air models. Users of the iPhone 8 series, iPhone X, and some older iPad devices can download and install iOS 16.7.7 and iPadOS 16.7.7.

According to Apple’s release notes, the latest iOS 17.4.1 update includes “important bug fixes and security updates” and is recommended for all users. However, the company’s support page does not currently reveal details of the security flaws that were fixed, but does claim that additional details will be provided in the future. The company’s website also displays the same notification with the iPadOS 17.4.1 update.

Earlier this month, Apple released iOS 17.4, which included significant modifications for EU users. In order to comply with the EU’s Digital Markets Act, the company now enables third-party app stores in the EU, and customers in the region are given the option of making third-party browsers the default app on iOS. These updates are only applicable to iOS in the EU; iPadOS 17.4 was made available at the same time but lacks any of these features.

iOS 17.4 and iPadOS 17.4 also added support for new emoji, including mushroom, phoenix, lime, broken chain, and swaying heads. Users who have updated to the latest versions of iOS or iPadOS will be able to send and view these emoji in a variety of apps.

With the update to iOS 17.4, Apple strengthened its Stolen Device Protection feature and enabled transcription for Apple Podcasts. Siri’s capacity to read texts in many languages has also been improved, and owners of the latest iPhone 15 series will be able to view the battery cycle count, production date, and date of first use in the Battery Health section of the Settings app.

To download and install the iOS 17.4.1 update on your iPhone, open the Settings app and select General > Software Update > Install Now. The procedure is the same for iPadOS 17.4.1, and you should keep your devices connected to a charger while installing these updates.
