According to reports, Apple is working on adding OLED (organic light-emitting diode) panels into future iPad and MacBook models. For the first time, the Cupertino-based company is going to convert from mini LED technology to OLED for its iPad Pro family in 2024.

Meanwhile, according to a new source, Apple is seeking to produce foldable iPad models to expand its product lineup, although there is no specific launch date. The first Apple tablet with a foldable display form factor is expected to arrive a few years after the OLED transition is complete.

According to Nikkei Asia, Apple will deploy advanced OLED panels in the iPad and MacBook in the next years. According to a supply chain report quoting various tech sector experts, the iPhone maker plans to use OLED display technology in its high-end iPad models next year.

A MacBook model with an OLED display is also rumored to be in the works, with a release date in the second half of 2025 at the earliest. This suggests that the MacBook with the upgraded screen will be available towards the end of 2025 or in early 2026. This corresponds to earlier reports. iPhone models already employ OLED panels.

Furthermore, the source indicates that Apple is considering producing a foldable iPad after deploying OLED screens on the tablets. However, the company “does not have a concrete timeline” for its foldable iPad concept, according to reports. This could happen just when the two OLED models are released next year.

TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said earlier this year that Apple will expand its portfolio by releasing a foldable iPad next year. He teased that the foldable iPad would have a carbon-fiber kickstand and would be available in 2024. Later, well-known analysts Mark Gurman and Ross Young contradicted Kuo’s claim, claiming they had not heard of a 2024 launch of a foldable iPad.

In addition to the foldable iPad, Apple is expected to debut a foldable smartphone around 2025. The company has applied for a patent for a new technology that will detect and prevent accidental falls of iPhone and iPad models with flexible screens.
