Massive Swindon Fire Prompts Emergency Evacuation

A serious explosion at a warehouse in Swindon’s Groundwell Industrial Estate has prompted the evacuation of the industrial area. Emergency services, including police, ambulance crews, and firefighters, responded to the incident on Crompton Road at around 19:30 BST.

Wiltshire Police described the situation as “serious”, confirming a large cordon has been established around the estate.

“An explosion has occurred in one of the industrial units and we are working alongside colleagues from the ambulance and fire service to make the area safe,” a police spokesperson said.

    Multi-Agency Response Underway

A spokesperson added: “Team brought to standby by Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service control room to support multi-agency response explosion/fire in Swindon with drone.”

Police have created a cordon around the industrial estate and are evacuating people from the area.

    Residents Advised to Stay Indoors

Nearby residents have not been evacuated from their homes but have been warned to stay inside for safety. The explosion was felt for miles, with many locals reporting that their homes shook when it occurred.

“We are working to evacuate the immediate area of the industrial estate but there is no need for residential dwellings to evacuate,” police confirmed.

Road closures are in effect around the scene. Cricklade Road between Queensfield and Thamesdown Drive is shut to traffic, while the A419 remains open but may be affected as the situation develops.

Fire Services Respond to Swindon Fire

The Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they are tackling a large warehouse fire. They currently have 10 fire engines and specialist vehicles at the scene. Dozens of firefighters, police officers, and ambulance crews are working to bring the blaze under control.

Local residents reported hearing a loud bang before the fire broke out. The explosion has caused a massive plume of smoke, with flames shooting meters into the air, prompting many locals to call emergency services.

    No Injuries Confirmed Yet

Emergency officials have not yet confirmed whether anyone has been injured. Their primary focus remains securing the scene and preventing further danger as the Swindon Fire continues to burn.
