Meta Quest Pro 2 to Be Developed in Collaboration With LG

Meta and LG are reportedly planning to release the second-generation Meta Quest Pro mixed reality headset in Q1 2025.

According to reports, the Meta Quest Pro 2 would be built as a successor to the company’s first premium XR headset in collaboration with a South Korean technology giant. The wearable device is said to be more powerful — and more expensive — than its predecessor, competing with the Apple Vision Pro and other advanced mixed reality headsets that are rumoured to be in development. Meta’s second-generation headset would purportedly feature an interface (UI) based on LG’s webOS rather than the company’s Quest UI.

According to a Korea Economic Daily report (in Korean), Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and LG Electronics CEO Cho Joo-wan will meet on Wednesday to discuss using LG’s hardware and software technology, as well as Facebook’s metaverse technology, to release the “highest-performing XR headset” in Q1 2025, “surpassing” Apple’s Vision Pro headset.

The purported LG-Meta alliance first surfaced in September 2023, with a report stating the device would be priced at $2,000, or nearly double the price of the first-generation Quest Pro headset, which was originally launched at $1,499 in 2022.

However, LG’s hardware will not be the only technology from the company to make its way into the alleged headset. According to the source, Meta is considering using LG’s webOS software instead of Quest UI, which might be useful if the company wants to compete with visionOS on the Apple Vision Pro or Samsung’s rumoured ‘Infinte’ XR headset.

As part of the rumoured agreement, Meta’s AI technology will be integrated into some LG products. According to the story, Zuckerberg’s first trip to South Korea in a decade will be to discuss XR headsets, and both companies are anticipated to announce a partnership to build Meta’s next premium XR headsets.
