To change the default sound follow these steps,
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps & Notifications.
- Tap Notifications.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Advanced.
- Tap Default notification sound.
Now you can browse the ringtones page. In case of a Pixel phone this is separated into categories including My Sounds, Pixel Sounds, Classical Harmonies, and others. At the top, it says what the current default is.

You can easily change the notification sound in popular Android apps like Messages, Gmail, and the Phone app. Here is how you can do it.
Change The Notification Sound In Gmail
If you want to change the notification sound for any Gmail address that syncs with your smartphone then you can personalize the notification sound to know whether it’s personal or work-related. Here’s how to change the notification sound in the Gmail app.
- Open the Gmail app.

Change The Notification Sound In Google Messages

If you want change your smartphone ringtone then follow these steps,
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap the three-dot menu in the top right.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Sounds and vibration.
- Tap Phone ringtone.
- Now, choose from the available options.
How To Add Custom Notification Sounds
If you want to get custom sounds for your Android then you need to either download them from an app or create one by your own. If you are planning to download ringtones then you can look for ringtone apps in Play Store. With that 3rd party app you can create and set custom ringtones right from the app.
Here’s how to manually add a custom sound to your settings,
- Go to Settings.
- Select Apps & notifications and then tap on Notifications.
- Scroll down and tap Advanced – Default notification sound.
- Tap My Sounds.
- Tap + (plus sign).
- Search and select your custom sound.
- Now, your new ringtone should appear in the list of available ringtones in the My Sounds menu.
