WordPress Adds Write Brief With AI Tool

The popular content management system WordPress launched a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature on Tuesday for self-hosted WordPress websites. The product, called Write Brief with AI, was introduced by Automattic, the parent company of WordPress.

The AI tool boosts the content’s confidence and helps users condense long, drawn-out sentences into shorter, more readable paragraphs. The tool is available as a plugin and is part of the company’s Jetpack feature set. It is currently in beta testing.

WordPress unveiled the AI-powered writing tool in a blog post. The internal name for Write Brief with AI was “Breve,” which is Latin for “brief.” The company claimed to be in need of a tool that would enable bloggers on the platform to write with accuracy and clarity. The Jetpack AI team of Automattic developed the tool.

The AI tool is accessible as a Jetpack plugin for self-hosted WordPress websites, and after it is added, it appears on the editor page next to the publish button. It provides four features. First, a grade score is assigned to indicate how readable the information is. In a side panel, users can examine which grade’s students found the text readable. The company advises users to aim for a score between 8 and 12 for optimal reading.

Second, it automatically flags sentences that are too long or too descriptive. The AI makes ideas as well, but users can edit the sentences manually by checking them. Thirdly, it also suggests simpler terms to substitute for complex ones. The company says this will help readers understand the text easily.

Finally, the AI also measures the confidence of a written text. It looks for words that imply uncertainty, such “maybe,” “might,” or “possibly,” and suggests more assertive alternatives in their place. Additionally, users can click once to replace many similar words.

Currently, the tool is available on Jetpack in beta. WordPress said that all of its users will have free access to the tool while it is still in development. However, once it launches publicly, it might become a premium offering. The company did not specify which AI model is powering the tool.
