    Christmas at White House 2025: How to Volunteer or Perform

    While the holidays are still months away, planning for Christmas at the White House 2025 is already in full swing. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are continuing the cherished tradition of welcoming volunteers and performers to bring festive cheer to the iconic residence.

    Applications are now open for individuals across the United States who wish to decorate the White House or perform at holiday open houses.

    Here’s everything you need to know about eligibility and how to apply.

    Want to Volunteer for White House Christmas Decorations? Read This First

    Volunteers must meet the following eligibility criteria:

    • Be at least 18 years old
    • Group applications are not accepted
    • Must be physically present in Washington, D.C. during selected shift dates
    • Available from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on assigned days
    • Two meals per day are provided by the White House
    • Volunteers are responsible for their own travel, lodging, and expenses

    “Duties during Shift 1 will involve work at an offsite facility… including but not limited to heavy lifting, work on ladders, and extended periods of time standing,” the White House announcement noted.

    Shift Options:

    • Shift 1: Monday, Nov 24 – Wednesday, Nov 26
    • Shift 2: Friday, Nov 28 – Sunday, Nov 30
    • Full Week: Monday, Nov 24 – Sunday, Nov 30
    • Note: Applicants may choose either Shift 1 or 2, or the full week — not both individual shifts.

    No decoration activities will occur on Thanksgiving Day.

    All applicants must undergo a background check and complete additional security screening before final approval.

    Interested in Performing at the White House for Christmas?

    The White House is also inviting applications from musical groups, school bands, choirs, and holiday-themed entertainers to perform during the festive events.

    Key guidelines include:

    • Performances must be a cappella or with acoustic accompaniment
    • No amplification equipment is provided or permitted
    • The point of contact must be at least 18 years old
    • Only one application per group
    • Applicants must cover their own expenses

    Like volunteers, performers must also submit to background checks for clearance.

    Application Deadlines & Notification Dates

    Application deadline: Friday, September 5, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. ET
    Notification of selection: Monday, October 13, 2025 by 5:00 p.m. ET
