Elon Musk Announces X Premium, X Premium+ Access for Free

The decision follows a report that showed fewer individuals were using the microblogging site, which was struggling to retain users.

Elon Musk has announced that X (previously known as Twitter) will now provide features from X Premium and X Premium+ — the microblogging platform’s paid subscriptions — at no additional cost to individual users. However, not all X customers will be eligible, according to information released by the company’s CEO on Thursday.

Premium membership tiers on X minimise the number of adverts on the timeline while also providing users with access to premium features such as Grok, an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot developed by Musk’s business xAI.

Musk stated in a post on X that all accounts on the site with “over 2,500 verified subscriber followers” will have access to services that require an X Premium subscription.

Meanwhile, the platform’s CEO stated that individuals with more than 5,000 confirmed subscriber followers will gain access to features accessible with an X Premium+ subscription. Signing up through the Android and iOS applications results in significantly higher subscription fees for all four options.

Musk did not explain why he granted chosen users access to X Premium and X Premium+ features, but the decision follows a report revealing that fewer people were using the microblogging service, which was struggling to retain customers. The platform has denied these charges.

This means you’ll need 2,500 followers who’ve paid for a Premium or Premium+ subscription to get access to these services, which also include a blue verification tick mark and the option to monetize your posts. Premium subscribers receive fewer commercials, whereas Premium+ subscribers see none.

Both subscriptions include the option to modify or undo posts, increase the word limit, publish lengthier videos, background video playback, video downloads, and access to the Grok AI chatbot. Premium+ access also allows subscribers to post articles. Subscriptions also enable users to personalise the mobile app design and hide likes and subscriptions.
