Trump Posts “No More Mr. Nice Guy” Armed Warning to Iran — At 5:30 AM While Hosting King Charles

The Iran war at day 61 produced one of its most viscerally striking single moments early Wednesday morning: a US president posting an AI-generated image of himself armed and flanked by explosions, warning a country he is nominally in ceasefire with that he is running out of patience.

The Post

US President Donald Trump warned Iran must “get smart soon” following a proposal from Iran that would postpone a deal on Iran’s nuclear programme. “Iran can’t get their act together,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday. “They don’t know how to sign a nonnuclear deal. They better get smart soon!” The president included an AI-generated photo of himself carrying an assault rifle, with bombs exploding on a mountainside behind him. A banner over the image read: “NO MORE MR. NICE GUY!”

The post was written at 5:30 a.m. Eastern Time, prompting many users on the platform to wonder what he was doing awake at that hour. Trump frequently writes his posts himself, without assistance from aides. Earlier that evening, Trump hosted British King Charles III and Queen Camilla at a state dinner at the White House.

What “No More Mr. Nice Guy” Actually Means

The phrase is a signal — not to Tehran’s foreign ministry, but to Trump’s own political base and to the Republican senators who have been growing impatient with an open-ended ceasefire. The image and the rhetoric serve domestic political purposes as much as diplomatic ones: they demonstrate to voters frustrated by $4.23 gas that Trump has not gone soft on Iran, that he remains the aggressive negotiator who launched the war in the first place.

Trump has told his aides to prepare for an extended blockade, and that it carries less of a risk for the US than resuming hostilities or walking away from the conflict without a deal that curbs Iran’s nuclear activities, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing unnamed American officials.

“Extended blockade” is the operative phrase. Trump is not preparing to resume bombing — he’s preparing to maintain economic pressure indefinitely. The “No More Mr. Nice Guy” imagery is the public face of a private decision to stay the course on the blockade rather than escalate militarily or accept a deal that doesn’t include the nuclear question.

The IRGC’s Response

In Iran, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Navy’s deputy for Political Affairs said that the force’s “surprise tactics” await the US in case of any “fresh miscalculation.” Mohammad Akbarzadeh said the navy would “employ its new cards, including in the field of smart targeting, and will set the massive vessels of the criminal regime ablaze.”

“Set the massive vessels ablaze” — directed at US carrier strike groups. The IRGC’s response to Trump’s 5:30 AM post was delivered within hours and in kind: theatrical, escalatory, designed for domestic Iranian consumption as much as for Washington. Both sides are talking to their own audiences while ostensibly threatening each other.

The Gas Station Context

The national average price of gasoline reached $4.23 per gallon in the US on Wednesday, according to the AAA motor club. It is the highest average price since the start of the conflict and up from $4.18 on Tuesday. A gallon of gas cost closer to $3, on average, at the start of the war.

From $3 to $4.23 in 61 days. That 41% increase is landing on every American who fills a tank, every business that operates a vehicle, and every airline planning a summer schedule. It is the daily domestic political cost of a war that Trump won militarily but cannot yet win diplomatically.
